Tailoring a CV to a job

What tailoring changes, what it refuses to change, and why that line matters.

Open a CV, go to the Target tab, and paste the advert — or paste its link and let Winkle read the page. Then press Tailor to this.

What it does

  • Re-words your summary against what this employer asked for.
  • Re-words the bullets on your roles, and may drop one that earns nothing for this job.
  • Reorders your skills so the ones the posting names come first.

What it will not do

It never adds a skill, an employer, a date or a number you did not already have. That is enforced in code, not only asked for in a prompt: anything the model returns that was not already on your CV is dropped before you see it.

Skills the posting wants that your CV does not claim are listed separately, as a gap for you to fill honestly. They are never quietly added — a CV that wins an interview on invented experience loses it in the room.
